    Peer Learning in the Class or on Facebook? _x000D_ A Correlational Experiment on Learning Outcomes

    This paper presents two interventions to improve the peer learning practice in an Information System course; namely (1) class-based peer tutoring in small groups and (2) discussions on Facebook group of the course. The article aims at comparing the correlations between the learning outcomes with class-based peer tutoring as well as with Facebook engagement. The findings show that although the learning outcomes are correlated with the both of these two interventions, the students’ engagement on Facebook has a stronger correlation with the learning outcomes. The study also reports the lessons learned in improving students’ engagement on the Facebook group of the course. The results have been discussed in the lens of Theory of Peer Learning and the future avenues of research have been suggested. This study also motivates teaching practitioners in Information Systems to improve peer learning practices by the use of social networking sites in their courses

    A Distributed Architecture for Certificate-based Delegation of Business Process Accessibility in Virtual Organizations

    In this paper, a distributed architecture has been proposed in order to support an authorization service more precisely in dynamically created Virtual Organizations (VO). In comparison to other existing architectures such as Akenti, VOMS and TAS, our architecture uses certificates on top a of the distributed agent architecture for managing requested resources among the VOs. The most obscure issue in distributed agents is finding the proper node that keeps the particular requested certificates In this paper, Chord’s Finger Table has been improved to add extra search abilities on the ring architecture of Chord. The process of locating keys can be implemented on the top of the improved Chord by associating a key with each data item, and storing the key/data item pair at the node to which the key maps. In this article, a theatrical analysis is presented for simulations, which shows improvement in the number of passed hops to locate keys in the proposed method in comparison of standard chord, so it’s more cost efficient

    There have been widespread critiques towards the lack of contextual approaches in the adoption theories. This paper argues that independent living plays a significant role in adoption of assistive technologies such as robots among seniors. Therefore, the present article introduces perceived transfer effects as a cognitive process in which elderly realize how assistive robots help them in their functional abilities to empower their capabilities required to live independently. The study conducts qualitative interviews to understand the constructs contributing to the perceived transfer effects of assistive robots from seniors’ perspective. The paper demonstrates the potentials of the capability approach in the context of assistive robots for elderly. The paper opens avenues of research in adoption of similar types of assistive technologies among elderly. The article also informs nursing and aged care professionals about the better adoption of robots as an alternative intervention to improve the everyday life of seniors

    Three Decades of Research on Strategic Information System Plan Development

    Strategic information system planning (SISP), including aligning business and IS/IT strategies, has been the conventional wisdom known for decades to academics and practitioners. Since the 1980s, many tools and models have been developed to facilitate strategic information system planning and implementation. These are development processes that define a set of steps for SISP or approaches that facilitate part of the SISP process. This article employs a systematic review approach and starts with a search of 2730 papers in nine top-ranked scientific databases. After an in-depth study of these papers, a final set of 85 studies is retrieved that focus directly on SISP development. We use this final set of papers to compare the steps proposed in different processes and the relevant approaches for each step. Additionally, an in-depth analysis of development processes has produced a generic seven-phase framework covering activities introduced in the literature. These seven phases are: initiation, business analysis, IS/IT analysis, strategy formulation, portfolio planning, implementation, and evaluation. The paper also classifies approaches that facilitate SISP and concludes with recommendations for practitioners and researchers

    A Systematic Literature Review on Strategic Information Systems Planning: Insights from the Past Decade

    Strategic information system planning (SISP) has been an important concern for top business and information systems (IS) managers. This paper employs a systematic literature review approach for 12 top ranking IS journals in the past 10 years in order to classify them based on their focus levels, research topics, and research methods. Our search resulted in 45 papers which are categorized into four focus groups, three context groups and six topic groups. The results indicate that most of the research focus to date has been on the alignment and development of plans. Researchers have paid more attention to the context as the focus of research, the firm as research context and the quantitative approach as research method. The results may be beneficial to show new researchers the current status and research gaps and for practitioners who want to ascertain valuable topics in the literature that help them with their business problems.     Engaging Students with Flipped Classes Using 3D Video Collaboration Technology

    The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the potential of 3D video collaboration technologies to engage students with the learning materials prior flipped classes. The study uses iSee designed for 3D video collaborative classes and compared it with online learning management systems. An experiment has been reported on 273 students in an undergraduate Information System course. It was revealed that the correlation between either the students’ engagement on the online quizzes or their engagement on iSee discussions with their learning outcomes were high. However, our statistical analysis showed that the relationship between iSee engagement and students’ learning outcomes was stronger. The qualitative observations during this experiment are also discussed. The results have been discussed in the lens of Theory of Peer Learning and the future research have been suggested. This study motivates teaching practitioners in Information Systems to use 3D video collaboration technologies in flipped classes

    The current work aims at deploying Facebook as a social media site to improve students’ learning experience with the flipped learning materials through implementation of a socially enabled peer and selflearning environment. Provided the body of literature on poor students’ experience in flipped classes, the paper implements an experiment comparing the online quizzes and Facebook to improve students’ experience with the online materials in flipped classes. The study looks at the students’ perceptions. The paper provides recommendations to the instructors on how to use Facebook to improve students’ experience with the flipped materials. This study also motivates teaching practitioners in Information Systems to improve flipped learning by using social networking sites in their courses.N

    Elderly’s Perception about The Value of Assistive Technologies for their Daily Living: Impacting Factors and Theoretical Support

    This paper presents a review of relevant studies found in a systematic search for research on the elderly’s perception about the value of assistive technologies. We found that the majority of papers did not use any theory to frame the research question or explain their results. We suggest that invariably occurs in benefits realization through the use of empowering technologies designed to provide training to help older people maintain their functional capabilities. Maintaining these functional capabilities is important for people to live independently for longer and in order to assess the benefits more quickly; we suggest researchers use the capability approach. The existing theories of adoption appear to be much more suited to supportive technologies that aid elderly in their functional disabilities. This is mainly due to the fact that the immediate benefits i.e. usefulness of these technologies can be seen more easily compared to empowering technologies
